The National Archives of the Philippines (NAP) conducted the Training-Workshop on Participatory and Inclusive Archival Projects for the Establishment of Local Community Archives in Jimenez, Misamis Occidental last August 28-30, 2019.
The training-workshop was facilitated by NAP and a team from University of the Philippines – Baguio led by Dr. Leah E. Abayao. The other members of the team were Professors Adonis Ramy L. Elumbre, Io M. Jularbal, and Roland Erwin P. Rabang. A total of 40 participants composed of representatives from the Local Government of Jimenez, schools, churches, barangays and indigenous communities joined the training-workshop. The seminar was also graced by the Municipal Vice Mayor Joselito C. Chiong.
The 1st phase of the Program, conducted last 16-17 October 2018, focused on recordkeeping requirements and archives administration. The 2nd phase, conducted last 9-11 January 2019, introduced the fundamentals of Community Archives. The August 2019 workshop was the 3rd phase of the local community archives program which involves face-to-face mentoring on data gathering, record creation and cataloguing of records/archival materials.
The Program for the Local Community Archives was conceptualized within an “inclusion framework” to empower communities to participate and actively decide what records are important to them and what they want to preserve for future generations.
