On May 27-28, 2021, the National Archives of the Philippines (NAP) together with the provincial government of Misamis Oriental conducted a two-day virtual seminar on Basic Records and Archives Management (BRAM) for the strategically challenged areas in the country.

The webinar which was conducted free-of-charge aimed to equip the participants with a sound understanding of the different concepts and principles in archives administration and records management. The webinar also aimed to promote transparency, accountability, and protection of privacy in managing records.

Misamis Oriental Governor, Hon. Yevgeny Vicente “Bambi” Emano through Provincial Board Member, Hon. Gerardo “Boboy” Sabal III, delivered a solidarity message. In his message, Sabal highlighted how everyone relies on information to effectively build knowledge, and how every organization deals with enormous amounts of records that should be properly maintained.

NAP’s Executive Director Victorino M. Manalo, delivered an inspirational message for the event. The message was followed by the course overview presented by Cheryl Alvarez, Training Specialist III.

The activities of the virtual seminar included a series of discussions and open fora which were conducted via video conference. The conference was done simultaneously with the provincial government of Misamis Oriental.

The webinar covered the different topics such as Basic Records and Archives Management such as Salient feature of Republic Act 9470, Introduction to Records Management, Records and Archives Management Program, Records Creation, Records Maintenance, Use and Control, Records Disposition Administration, Records Center Administration, and Archives Administration, Records Counter Disaster Preparedness and Preservation of Records.

The aforementioned topics were discussed by Ma. Teresa A. Pagaragan, Chief of Archives Collection and Access Division; Clarissa S. Garcia and Jose Domingo Barola, Records Management Analysts II; and Virginia S. Raymundo, Chief of Records Center Division.

A total of ninety (90) participants attended the webinar facilitated by NAP’s Training and Information Division (TID) headed by TID Chief Gina M. Papa, in collaboration with the Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental.
