The National Heritage Month is celebrated annually in May by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 439. This celebration which is spearheaded by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) aims to conserve and promote the nation’s cultural and historical heritage.
During the National Heritage Month, the NCCA enjoins all cultural and national government agencies to undertake heritage-related activities. This year’s theme for the celebration, “PAMANANG LOKAL: Binhi ng Kulturang Pilipino,” highlights the value of promoting and preserving grassroots culture within the community.
As its contribution to the celebration, the National Archives of the Philippines (NAP) held several activities to preserve national and cultural heritage by strengthening the role of records and archives within communities.
On 2 May 2022, the NAP conducted the Records Recovery and Disaster Preparedness (RRDP) Virtual Seminar-Workshop for Regions 7, 8, and 13. These regions were selected for the first RRDP webinar in 2022 because they were heavily affected by Typhoon Odette in 2021. Meanwhile, the training-workshop on RRDP was held in four half-days beginning 2 May until 4-6 May 2022.
Face-to-face seminars were resumed in May. The NAP conducted the Seminar-Workshop on Basic Records and Archives Management (BRAM) for Strategically-Challenged Areas in Tanay, Rizal on 17-18 May 2022. The Municipal Government of Morong, and Tanay, Rizal were selected as local partners for this program.
The NAP also produced an exhibit for the 125th founding anniversary of the Department of Finance (DOF) where it featured documents pertaining to the activities of the DOF’s precursor agencies. As part of heritage month, the NAP received publications from the Philippine Map Collectors Society (PHIMCOS) on 19 May 2022. The PHIMCOS also donated catalogues from their past map exhibitions.
