On September 20, 2021, the National Archives of the Philippines (NAP) invited Health Assistant Secretary Enrique A. Tayag to conduct a short lecture on coronavirus disease (COVID-19) as part of NAP’s continuous commitment to boost vaccine confidence. Through a virtual assembly, Asec. Tayag answered the most frequently asked questions about COVID-19 infection and about achieving herd immunity.
In his lecture, Asec. Tayag discussed the benefits of getting vaccinated against COVID-19. He explained that while being vaccinated does not guarantee that an individual will not get infected with the virus, he underscored that fully vaccinated individuals will break the chain of transmission of the COVID-19.
Asec. Tayag explained that the COVID-19 vaccine does not only protect those who are fully vaccinated, it also reduces the chances of spreading the virus to other people. He said that vaccines will prevent severe illness or hospitalization.
Asec. Tayag reiterated the importance of getting vaccinated and assured the public that vaccines are safe. He said that the only way to end the pandemic is to achieve herd immunity and this can only be achieved through the cooperation of the public.
