The Featured Document series presents records from the National Archives of the Philippines’ Spanish Documents Section, Section 1.  This collection of about 450 fonds totaling about 9 million pages is comprised of maps, plans, designs, sketches and more. Other items from this Section have been featured in past exhibits and publications produced by the NAP.

The seventh document of the series selected is a Topographic Map done by the Chiefs of Tigbauan on 21 August 1821.  The map was signed by Augustin Balahidion.

The file contains the following background documents:  In the Capital of Yloilo on said day, month, and year, Don Vizente Geronimo appeared with the authority signed by the Town of Tigbauan naming him as Representative of the law suit giving back to him the power to use his right. A decree dated 3 August was immediately ordered and signed by Don Miguel Maria Rodrigues, Mayor and Captain (of War) of this District of Yloilo. This decree was certified and sworn to before Notary Public Jose Victorino Escamilla.   The above Representative Geronimo upon being informed of said decree confirmed the notification and signed.  The file with the attached map was released to him.

This map is one of the most beautiful and colorful in the collection of the National Archives.
