This collection of about 450 fonds totaling about 9 million pages is comprised of maps, plans, designs, sketches and more. Other items from this Section have been featured in past exhibits and publications produced by the NAP.
This month’s document deals with the project of the Spanish Government on the construction of a parochial church for the town of Alegria in the Province of Cebu. The document belongs to the Record Series “Patronatos”.
Bearing the title, “Memoria” and dated in Cebu on 20 October 1881, the record contains a description of the original church, which was constructed more than 30 years ago when Alegria was only a sitio. The record explains that because of the many major repairs done through the years and because of the increase in the population of the town, there was a need to build a new church. The description of the proposed structure, details of style, dimensions, system of construction, and duration of the project are included. The document is signed by Sr. Arquitecto Dn. Domingo de Escondrillas. Attached is the Architectural Plan of the proposed Church.
